Corn growers partner with United Egg Producers on DDGS study

The Ohio Corn Marketing Program (OCMP) is proud to be involved in a project that will show the environmental benefits of the ethanol co-product Dried Distillers Grains (DDGS). The United Egg Producers (UEP) Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG) project hopes to demonstrate that feeding DDGS, as part of a properly balanced diet, can result in dramatic reductions in ammonia emissions.

The $1.9 million project is funded through a grant from USDA NRCS as well as several other supporting partners including: the American Egg Board, Iowa Egg Council, Iowa State University, Penn State University, Rose Acre Farms, UEA Allied, U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, the University of Kentucky and United Egg Producers.

In addition to OCMP’s support and leadership at the National Corn Growers Association, the study is also receing additional support and funding from the following organizations: Illinois Corn Marketing Board, Iowa Corn Promotion Board, Nebraska Corn Board and the Maryland Grain Producers Utilization Board.

UEP states with the ethanol production and high feed costs dilemma facing animal agriculture, it’s encouraging to see these two industries working together to find solutions.
